Last week we visited Boldt Castle, located in a magnificent area known as 1000 Islands, just a few hours north of us, where the St Lawrence River flows into Lake Ontario. Its beauty has inspired love and a famous salad dressing. We will continue to take short adventures so long as Cathy enjoys them and before she drifts too deep into the cruel and treacherous currents of the glio-river. Already some of her physical and mental abilities have degenerated to a noticeable level. Walking is her most obvious physical struggle. When she can walk, which varies day-to-day, she is beginning to use a walker, and we have a wheelchair on standby. Short-term memory and confusion are also a struggle. Reminder notes on mirrors and the refrigerator help and our repeat conversations always feel fresh.

Cathy is humbly surrendering to her compromised independence, but her faith is steadfast, and her suffering is purposeful for the love of others. Moments of sadness are far outweighed by laughter in our chatter and joy in our hearts. We are still so deeply in love and appreciate the blessings of our lives, including this precious time together. Who knows how many days, weeks or months of human existence lay ahead for Cathy. Who knows if her health condition will turn around. By God’s grace, she will continue to fight the good fight, and I will continue to be blessed as her #1 helper, cheerleader and prayer partner. Cathy and I thank you for your continued prayers and comments of support. We love you and feel your love.
