Ramping up Comfort and Strength In The Face Of Trials

One of the books we are studying during this Lent is “Carry the Cross with Padre Pio”. We knew him as a suffering saint, including his Stigmata. But we had no idea of the extensive and tormenting war that Satan waged against him for years. His letters to his spiritual advisors are tender, mystic, challenging to understand, and so full of love for and from Jesus, Mary and his Guardian Angel. They are inspiring! A particular reflection captivated us one day during the third week of Lent: “The challenges and storms in life are signs of God’s kingdom being established within oneself and that temptations, far from being feared, should be seen as indications of divine favor.” This fueled another curious discussion about dying, death and eternal life as we continue to pray: God, grant us the wisdom to know and love your will.

On the home front, a front-door ramp was recently installed. We went for a short wheelchair ride a few days ago and just sat outside for a while. It helped the cabin-fever. We also installed a downstairs portable shower which is a welcome upgrade to the sponge baths Cathy has had to endure for a few weeks. We receive daily in-home communion and we also have daily home care for up to nine hours a day. We are also enjoying numerous visitors from our families, friends and hospice nurses. How can we possibly complain. Cathy’s steps are few, her memory is a bit scrambled and her severe headaches are often. Hopefully God’s Kingdom is expanding around here. Certainly, Cathy’s faith is steadfast and our blessings are abundant. Thank you, God. Thy will be done. Happy Easter everyone!!!
