Attachments
It has been a wonderful month since Cathy’s last update. Our adventures have included attending a spiritually nurturing retreat with the Order of Malta, enjoying Thanksgiving celebrations with a dear sick friend in Minneapolis, and giving witness to a loving, faith-based wedding of two young doctors, one of whom joined us in Serabu a few years ago. And in the last few days, we have been enjoying the first light snows of the season. We may have a White Christmas here in Athens, PA!!!
Our recent prayers and discussions have centered on one of Cathy’s dreams, where Jesus spoke to her about bringing her home, but first she must let go of Tom and he must let go of her. We have never thought of each other as an “attachment” that would somehow compete or interfere with our love of Jesus. However, since falling in love so long ago, we have not imagined our life without the other. Is it possible to dissect out our human “attachment” to each other without diminishing our love for each other? Our discussions are tender and our prayers are simple: Sweet Jesus, help us to let go and our love grow.
Cathy’s next Duke visit is scheduled for January 2, 2025, to take another look at her changing MRI. We are touring the Vanderbilt’s Biltmore Mansion in Ashville on New Years Eve, before heading into Durham on the 1st. May the joy and peace of Christmas fill your hearts and bless your family. I hope you both have a Blessed Christmas and that you enjoy New YEar’s Eve at the Biltmore.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Merry Christmas to all
Tom & Cathy, After my husband died last Feb, I had several people (including a priest) remind me that “there’s no marriage in heaven” based on Mt 22:30 where Jesus says that in heaven people “neither marry or are given in marriage but are like angels .”
This made me sad bc I couldn’t understand how “The two shall become one” gets thrown out the window when you die. I thought there must be more to this & so I took it to prayer. I had a mental image of a bifurcated tree with the understanding that the union (of the main trunk) had already occurred over the course of many yrs. And after death, both sides of the tree continue to draw nourishment from the main trunk (Union) with its roots deep in the ground. While both branches continue to grow independently to their optimal good. That reassured me somehow !
You have both cared for so many people for so many, so now it is good to see that you are taking care of each other. These travels and visits are good for rejuvenation of your bodies, minds and spirits. God bless you both.
Hey, like Huey Lewis says and Brenda and mine anthem, “Happy to be stuck with you!!”
Prayers and blessings from the Pictor family. May you both have a special Christmas and good report in January, Cathy.
Tom & Cathy,
You both are loved so much and by us all, your friends and family. You both continue to grow in Love with God and each other. When we let go ,we let God and he will care for us and give us what we need through a greater purpose. We can only pray for his guidance and be open to the Holy Spirit for his comfort and gifts
.
We Love you and Cathy so much and pray for his wondrous miracles.
May the peace , jope and Joy of Christ fill you both completely this blessed Christmas season.
