Medical Update
Cathy continues her low dose chemo. As long as there are no significant outward changes, this protocol will remain in effect at least until her next MRI and doctor visits in early December. Overall, Cathy continues to feel good. Her chemo related fatigue and nausea issues remain at a more tolerable low level.
Life Update
We arrived at Los Angeles and the home office of Mission Doctors Association early Friday afternoon. Elise Frederick, Executive Director of Mission Doctors Association, is our host and newest best friend. MDA is taking good care of us with housing, food and companionship, while we are in LA. Last night we enjoyed a wonderful dinner and visit with members of the MDA Board. Cathy’s nephew, Eric and wife Mandy, along with Cathy’s brother, Tommy and wife Kathy, were also at the dinner. We shared mission stories and gained praiseworthy insights into MDA’s efforts to promote and support Catholic mission work around the world. It was a lovely evening, and we feel right at home.
Today at 3:30 PST, Cathy will receive a special recognition award for her mission work during the last 35 years. Selected by Mission Doctors Association as their 2023 Catholic Doctor of the Year, Cathy will be presented with the MDA’s “World of Difference Award” during the Los Angeles Archdiocese’s Annual Mass for Healthcare Professionals, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The Mass Celebrant is Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, and the Homilist is Bishop Albert Bahhuth.
This Mass and award ceremony will be live streamed on the Cathedral website, www.olacathedral.org and on social media: youtube.com/olacathedral and facebook.com/olacathedral.
We also want to highlight St. Louis Parish, Memphis TN, for their annual Feed My Flock campaign to provide food to our mission village, Serabu. Yesterday hundreds of Parish volunteers gathered to assemble and package 55,000 meals that soon will be shipped to Serabu. Over the past twelve years, Feed My Flock at St. Louis Parish has donated approximately 1.2 million meals for the people of Serabu. Thank you, St. Louis Parish, for your generous hearts and great work.
